Plan which Tile

This step is often underestimated and sometimes even forgotten (can you believe it?). Planning your ceramic tile installation from A to Z is probably one of the most important steps for a smooth, easy going and problem free bathroom tile installation.

Some things to take in account are;

Suitability of the tile
Pattern /colour of the tile
Size of the tile
Size of the area to be tiled. (This is important data that will be vital to know how much tile, grout, etc, you have to buy)
Adhesive, mortar or grout to suit your needs

Not all ceramic tile installations are the same, different tiling installations may require different mortar or grout.

DO NOT feel shy about asking the suppliers for advice or help in calculating how much you need. They will gladly help you, as they are likely to make a sale.

Shop around if you want to save

This is not as difficult as the first step, however when the budget is tight it can be tricky to find the right tile for the ceramic tile installation you want. You are going to have to make some compromises and so do not get carried away by the beauty of some of the ceramic tiles. Prices can vary a lot between different tiles, so some end up rather expensive for only a few square metres.
Always shop around, it has never been easier. Just sit in front of the computer and use the Internet. Use local directories to find the suppliers close to you and pay them a visit.

Before making your final decision always check the chosen tile under different lights as the results can be surprisingly different.

Prepare the surface for a long lasting job before laying the ceramic tiles The surface to be tiled (floor, wall or any other) will often need to be prepared, this can include work like filling,
levelling, smoothing, priming and sometimes water proofing.

The right preparation will be directly affect the lifespan of the ceramic tile installation. Unless you want to be tiling again soon, you want to get this right from the start.

This is probably the most important point to ensure a long lasting tiling job. do not rush it.

Laying the ceramic tiles safely

The technique of laying ceramic tiles is not especially difficult. It only takes a little bit of practice before anyone can easily master it. Clearing the room to be tiled before starting will help you to do the job safer and easier. do not forget to wear your safety goggles when cutting or chipping tiles.

Laying ceramic tiles can also be a bit messy, if you do not want dust all over the house we suggest sealing the room you want to tile whenever possible. A large piece of plastic tacked to the door frame will do the job quite well.

Try not to allow any adhesive to get on your skin and never forget to read the manufacturers directions before even opening the tin. If some ends up on you, just clean it with water as soon as possible. Even though tile adhesives are not usually abrasive, if you leave it for some time it may cause an allergic reaction.

Use a spirit level to help you with the depth & level of the tiles and spacers to maintain an even distance between them.

The finishing touches

Once the tile adhesive or mortar has cured (dried) and the tiles are firm and even, you can start with the finishing touches.

you will have to fill the spaces between tiles with grout making sure you do not leave any gaps as these cause damp problems, in a shower for example.

The technique is very simple, use a rubber faced trowel to spread the grout and a cotton cloth to clean the excess grout from the tiles afterwards.

There are many different types of grouts; you will have to choose the right one depending on the surface and chosen tile.

Now that you have your ceramic tiles laid down, you only need to take care of them, usually manufacturers provide information on taking care of their tiles and only minimal effort is required. Most household cleaning products will do the job well, if some particular stain is stubborn, there are many commercial stain removers, just make sure you use the right product for the right tile.

You are now closer to discovering how satisfying it can be handling a tile installation yourself; just follow these 5 steps to get the best result.

There are many techniques to the art of Aikido. Its takes its basic form from the Jujitsu style locks and throws and it also incorporates moves from the arena of sword and spear fighting by experts. There are some basic fundamental moves in Aikido which one must be aware of.

Ikkyo is the first technique. Here the point of control is by putting one hand near the elbow and the other near the wrist. This style of grip puts pressure on the ulnar which is located in the arm's medial portion. The next technique is Nikyo where painful pressure can be applied to the arm by the use of an adductive wristlock where the arm gets twisted. The third is called the Sankyo which is a pronating move. Tension is directed all the way up the arm, elbow right up to the shoulder. At number four you have the Yonkyo where the knuckles put pressure on the radial nerve. The movement is somewhat like that of an Ikkyo but the forearm is not gripped and the shoulder is used. The last technique is Gokyo which is similar to the Ikkyo but with a slight modification which involves a twisting and inverting of the hand holding the wrist.

After the basic techniques come some protective moves that one must know to effectively disarm the opponent.

The first move is called the Kotogaeshi which translates to a wrist return in English. Here the student places a wristlock and throw that stretches to the extensor digitorum. The next move is called Iriminage or the enter-body throw. Here the student or nage moves in to the opponent's or uke's space somewhat like a clothesline technique. Number three is Kokynage or breath throw which involves different types of timing throws. Koshinage is where the student lowers his hips to below the opponent's hip level, uses this as a fulcrum to flip the opponent. Tenchinage is also known as the heaven and earth throw. Here both wrists are grabbed and one hand holds the wrist high and the other low while moving forward which will make the opponent lose balance and fall.

Shihonage is a throw that goes in four directions. The hand folds back beyond the shoulders which then locks the shoulder joints. At number seven you have the Kaitennage or the rotation throw. Here the arm is pushed backwards so the shoulder joints lock and then pressure is applied. The last one is Jujinage where a throw will lock the arms together. This also goes by the name shaped-like-a-ten-throw because the cross shape resembles a 10 in kanji.

So how do you reach 21? In blackjack, the cards have values. Number cards two through ten are counted at face value, while all face cards (King, Queen and Jack) are worth ten points. The ace is a special card in blackjack: you decide whether it’s worth one or eleven points. Since casino players are dealt two cards to start, if you get an ace and a face card or ten, you have 21—an instant win, as long as the dealer doesn't get 21 as well. This two-card winning hand is called a “blackjack”; hence the name of the game!

Casino rules for blackjack are basically the same at all casinos. After you get your first two cards, your options are to hit, stand, double down, split, or sometimes surrender. Hit means to take another card; stand means to keep what you have. A double down means you will double your bet in exchange for taking only one more card (you can draw up to five cards in blackjack). If your first two cards are the same value, you can split, or separate them and play each card as a different hand. Not all casinos offer the option to surrender, which means you would withdraw from the hand and receive half your bet back.

When you play blackjack at a casino, be sure to know which table to choose. Most casinos have color coded blackjack tables according to the minimum bet the table accepts, usually $3, $5, $25 or $100. In any casino, it’s a given the $3 and $5 tables will be crowded, but they’re great for beginners at casino games because all of the cards are dealt face-up, as opposed to the one-up, one-down method at higher tables. So the next time—or the first time—you visit a casino, make a stop at the blackjack tables and aim for 21!

Martial arts is an art that is best suited for these situations and if you are in a job where you may face walking alone in the dark then you must try and learn the art of martial arts. Here Aikido is an option because the aim behind Aikido is not to inflict damage but only to defend oneself effectively.

Aikido is a martial art form from Japan and it is a lot like Judo and Karate. The arms are used in Aikido to block any offensive attack and the idea is to redirect the same force back to the opponent thereby disabling his attack and protecting you. In simpler terms it would be something like catching a ball thrown at you with one hand and you throw it back to a third. Aikido martial arts involve swift movements and the best example of this is seen in movies starring Steven Segal.

Aikido was invented in the 1930s and as students learnt this art a number of dojos sprang up where this was taught. Within Aikido there were a number of different techniques that made their appearance like Yoshinkan, Yoseikna and Aikikai. Aikido is not just about doing drills and sparring with a partner at a dojo. Its worth is realized only in actual combat and this is best exemplified by the tournament called the Tomiki Aikido.

While the other martial arts have got their place in the Olympics, Aikido is yet to get the same honor. But local dojos and university clubs do hold regular competitions. These are between two fighters and points are earned on the basis of a successful strike to the opponent.

In Aikido one has a form of martial arts where anyone regardless of age and gender can join. Signup with a dojo near your residence, master the basic techniques properly and then all you need is practice to improve your skills. To become a good fighter you have to go though the learning stage which may involve a lot of falling. It is only with practice that you will be able to hone your skills.

The Tomiki Aikido is a monthly event held in most states and if you feel you are ready then it would not hurt to participate in this event. There may be announcements by concerned clubs on the website or then there may be a notice on bulletin boards so look for the announcement and see if you can sign up for it.

By nature, Aikido is not a violent form of martial arts. It is primarily for self defense and by learning this art one can be both mentally and physically prepared for any situation. Aikido involves no offensive punches or sharp kicks.

There should be no compromise on self defense. Pepper sprays and other little tricks may save you from a single attacker or at best two. Of course you won't get attacked today or even tomorrow but it will save you from becoming a statistic on the list of crimes if you can successfully defend yourself.
